08/17/07: TSMC confirms new XBOX 360 Hardware, PS3 failure |
|
On Thursday, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) said
Microsoft has begun using TSMC's 90 nanometer RAM for the Xbox 360. The
chips are said to be cheaper and cooler-running possibly helping to
reduce the number of machine failures.
TSMC also speculates the move was cost effective and not related to failure issues. Standing behind their products, Microsoft will start giving a 3 year warranty in July. Players everywhere have experienced the three red lights indicating mechanical failure (aka the ring of death), and hope the upgrade resolves some of these problems!
Sony, on the other hand is now reporting a failure rate of less than 1 percent!
