A company called Emotive is now set to release a $300 wireless headset which gives users the ability to control video games with their mind. The device uses 16 electrodes to probe your brain for not only 12 basic mental commands (up, down, left,right,etc...) but it can also detect emotional states such as anger and fear. Although more expensive units are already being used in paraplegics and other lab settings, this is the 1st consumer product created using this type of technology.

     Telling us why the device has taken over 2 years to hit the market Le says "if we let something seen as half baked get onto the market, it would be a disaster. We have an opportunity to revolutionize the way people interact with technology. But we wont get a chance to do that unless we provide the right experience in the beginning. Beta testers have indicated that with a little training the thing really does work as advertised.

A Gateway Opens

Lets hope the public embraces this strange new technology (and hope that RockStar doesn't find a use for it in GTA). Controlling machines with your mind is an exciting thought and the very prospect will inspire a whole new generation of electronics. I want one for my lawn mower right away.
